According to Hare and Hart (2005) Antisocial personality disorder is one of the mental disorders which constitute a large segment of mental disorder patents. This disorder begins right from childhood and continues through adolescent to adulthood.à The main feature of the disorder as outlined by the American Psychiatric Association is continuous disregard and violation of other rights with deceit and manipulation seen as key features of the disorder. In the diagnoses of the disorder, it is usually considered accurate to take diagnostic materials from others and not specifically from the individual themselves. Individual with this disorder may exhibit symptoms ranging from lying and stealing, difficulties in obeying the law, violation of rights or others, abuse of substance, aggressive behavior and involvement in fights, lack of remorse, and many others. The disorder is also referred to as sociopathic personality disorder. In this paper we are going to explore the different therapies o r treatment that have been done or continue to be done regarding the disorder.Symptoms and diagnosisThere are many theories that try to explain the cause of this disorder but prominent genetics and environment factor have been used to explain the occurrence of the disease. The genetic theory asserts that the disease can be passed on from parents to children. It is a part of the nature and nurture debate.Environmental factors including the patterns of relationship are related to be a leading cause of the disorder. Other theories suggest abnormalities in the development of the nervous system while another theory assert that people with this disorder have a higher sensory input for normal functioning of the brain. These theories attribute the cause to brain functions.According to the DSM-IV criteria diagnoses of the disorder requires presence of three or more of the following symptoms:à · Lack of conformation with respect to the social norms and laws with repeating acts leading to arr estsà · Deceit with repeated lying, aliases, conning just for personal pleasure or profità ·Ã Impulsivityà ·Ã Irritability and aggressive behavior resulting in increased physical fightsà ·Ã Disregarding safety for others and for selfà ·Ã Irresponsibility and lack of consistent work behaviorà · Un-remorsefulness resulting to indifferent rationalizing, mistreatment of othersAccording to the National Comorbidity Survey, it has been documented that using DSM-IV criteria, the disorder is prevalent in about 3% of males and about 1% of females.à However the prevalence has been found higher in some populations like prisoners including non-violent offenders and in substance abuse rehabilitation centers.Although most of the diagnoses have been found in adulthood, there are three critical tools or markers which can be used to assess children with the disorder. An Environmental Analysis Essay
An environmental analysis of the constraints in both the host and home countries is of primary significance in determining the conditions of the host market, thus giving the home country the option to adjust according to the conditions in the host country. There are several important factors that should be considered in the environmental analysis, specifically of the host country, Turkey, and of the home country, the United States of America. The factors for both the host and home countries include but are not limited to the political environment, the judicial and legal environments and the economic environment. The current political environment in the United States is primarily led by the Republican Party headed by President George W. Bush. However, the presidential elections are scheduled November this year where Senators Barack Obama and John McCain from the democratic and republican parties respectively will represent their political affiliations and seek office in White House. Americaââ¬â¢s structure of government is a representative democracy and the system of government is a federal republic where there are contiguous states. On the other hand, the legal environment in America is basically pegged on the countryââ¬â¢s system of governance. That is, the laws of the country are created by the bicameral Congress composed of the House of Representatives and the Senate, apart from the state and local laws created by the state and local levels of the government. The judicial system is basically comprised of the lower federal courts and Supreme Court which is the ultimate arbiter of the American laws. There are also appellate courts where cases can be filed for appeal and where decisions can be overturned depending on the merit of the case filed. In general, business in the United States in the context of the legal and judicial systems is healthy as there is a very minimal government control of the market, key private players in the economy are given the freedom to decide for themselves on a micro level as far as the market is concerned, and some of the laws are created to actually foster foreign and local trades. The United States economy has recently encountered a major setback primarily in the stock market, thus becoming a major cause of concern for the local corporations operating in the local economy. Nevertheless, the U. S. Federal Reserve System has been consistent in adjusting the interest rates so as to resolve the problem and bring the economy back on its feet (Guha, 2008, p. 9). On the other hand, the host country, Turkey, is nonetheless a regional power with influence reaching Europe, the Caucasus and beyond, and whose membership in the European Parliament is a key step towards becoming a full member of the European Union (Mooradian, 1995, p. 3). But even though there have been significant advancements in the economy of Turkey in more recent years, the country ââ¬Å"cannot consider itself a true democracyâ⬠since it ââ¬Å"does not tolerate the freedoms of speech and expression (Angacian, 2004, p. 3). â⬠The country has been under military rule, and that there have been previous business threats from the ruling government aimed at France and Canada after the two latter countries recognized the Armenian Genocide. After both countries recognized the genocide, the Turkish government implemented a boycott in French wines and textiles as well as a boycott on Canadian products and enforced changes in the business contracts entered into by Canada with Turkey. Two of these changed contracts are contracts worth approximately $335 million and one that is close to a billion dollars worth of investments (Angacian, 2004, p. 3). But even though there are negative sides to the history of Turkey, it can hardly be denied that the countryââ¬â¢s economy has been on the rise in more recent times. In 2004, Turkeyââ¬â¢s economy has posted an eight percent growth with inflation rates dropping down to single digits. However, the recent developments in the country have substantially diminished its chances of joining the European Union as Turkey has become the ââ¬Å"primary culpritâ⬠in the Unionââ¬â¢s livelihood as Turkey has become a nation ââ¬Å"stealing manufacturing work while delivering an influx of indigent job-seekers (Goodman, 2005, p. D. 01). â⬠on the positive side, the home country, United States, can opt to venture into the rising industries in Turkey given the fact that the production costs in Turkey such as manpower is lower than its neighboring countries. Since the goods of the country primarily find their way to the rest of Western Europe, the advantage is that the investing foreign company has little to worry about production cost and market reach. On the other hand, the negative side of the market environment in Turkey is that the interest rates in credit are high, thereby resulting to higher prices of products which also results to limited exportation and new investments. Thus, it is significant for the company to consider relying on its capital resources rather than investing by financial borrowing as doing the opposite will most certainly result to higher prices of products manufactured. Moreover, it appears that the business environment in Turkey is not entirely friendly when the context of military rule is solely considered. In more recent years, Turkey has also experienced a steady growth in its technology sector although a large par of the country remains agricultural. The apparent diversity in culture, especially the Kurds and Turks, has resulted to differences in access in technology among the population as most Kurds are situated in the outskirts of the country. Some cultural considerations that should be addressed are the variations in the local purchases of goods depending on the financial capabilities of the local residents as well as the prospect of export in Western Europe where more cultural varieties are present, the strategies molded from the cultural context in Turkey and the leadership style of the company needed to address the economic and political concerns faced by the country and its people. Auschwitz Concentration Camp
Auschwitz concentration camp Auschwitz could not rest safely even in the country's silence in Poland. Only this name is recognized immediately - this is an abbreviation of criminal atrocities in the 20th century. If there are out-of-place and unnecessary myths, the facts can be simple, that is, the Auschwitz concentration camp. This has not been the case for 50 years. The list of myths and misunderstandings about Nazi's largest concentration camp is long. The Soviet investigators announced that 4 million people died in the Auschwitz concentration camp in May 1945 and Polish Communist authorities claimed this exaggerated number before losing power in 1989. The Auschwitz concentration camp was a network of concentration camps and extinction camps founded and operated by Nazi Germany in Poland occupied during the Second World War. This includes Auschwitz I (the original concentration camp), Auschwitz II - Birkenau (central colony / extinction camp), Auschwitz III - Monowitz (labor camp using IG Farben's factory), and 45 Of satellite camps. Auschwitz I originally came for Polish prisoners in Poland and arrived in May 1940. The extinction of the first prisoners in September 1941. Auschwitz II - Birkenau continued the Nazi as the main place to eventually solve the Jewish problem. Problems during the massacre. From the beginning of 1942 until the end of 1944, transportation trains carried the Jews from various parts of Europe to the gas chambers of the camp, where they were killed together with the cyanide-based poison Zyklon B developed as an insecticide. The Auschwitz concentration camp (Auschwitz concentration camp) started activities in the outskirts of Auschwitz in Poland. As most European Jews live in Poland and Eastern Europe, there will be six concentration camps known as camps of death: Auschwitz - Birkenau, Chelmuno, Belzec, Treblinka, Sobibor and Maedanek. Sir Harold McMichele, UK High Commissioner for Palestine, was frustrated by the entry of illegal immig rants into Palestine, leaving Hungary and returning two Jews who settled in Palestine with a tourist visa in 1934 We insisted on accepting. The Hungarian government said that its Jews are too numerous and the goal of the government is encourage immigration as far as possible. The Auschwitz concentration camp, also known as Auschwitz-Birkenau, opened in 1940 and is the largest among Nazi concentration camps and des camps. Auschwitz is located in the southern part of Poland and was originally a police prison camp. But it evolved into a camp network where the Jews and other perceived Nazi enemies are usually cleaned out in the gas chambers or used as slave labor. Several prisoners led by Josef Mengele (1911-79) also accepted barbaric medical experiments. Over the course of the Second World War (1939 - 1945), more than 1 million people died in the Auschwitz concentration camp. In January 1945, when the Soviet Army approached, Nazi officials ordered the camp to abandon and sent about 60, 000 prisoners of war to other places. When the Soviets entered Auschwitz, they found thousands of detainees and the mountains of the bodies left behind.

US rising debt level and current economic problems Essay
US rising debt level and current economic problems - Essay Example According to the forecast of the organisation for economic cooperation and development (2011), the budget deficit for US is likely to increase to 10% of the GDP. This projection means that the US government must formulate ways of arresting the looming economic crises as a result of the increasing deficits. The main reason why the public debt in America would increase is the need for the government to increase job opportunities by stimulating demand (Saad 2011). When a government intends to create more jobs, it will increase the level of demand by increasing its public expenditure and reducing the level of taxation. This had made the Obamaââ¬â¢s government increase the level of public debt. At the same time, the 2008 economic recession could also be a reason for the increased budget deficit. After a recession, the economy of a country needs to be stimulated to increase the level of demand and to create more economic activities. This made the US government increased their level of b udget deficit to increase the rate of recovery of the domestic economy (Amadeo 2011). The increased expenditure from external borrowing accompanied by a decline in the level of taxation must result in an increase in the level of public debt. If not closely monitored, the increased public expenditure will result in increasing level of inflation making prices of goods soar in the market. The increased cost in recapitalization and acquisition of financial institutions as well made the public deficit soar (Turner 2008). One of the causes of the economic recession was failure by the financial institutions to act decisively to rescue the depreciation in the economy. The failure by the credit rating agencies to give true credit risks made banks increase their mortgage loans that in the long run led to the recession. The US government as a result of this ventured into takeover of some banks which therefore meant increase in government spending making the economy experience a rising level of deficit (Saad 2011). The increases government spending accompanied by the declining tax rates was bound to increase the level of debt and this makes the projections of OCED realistic and important for government formulation. It must also be noted that the increasing deficit has made the democrats and republicans have clashes on the measures that the government should undertake to help reduce the level of deficit and the general debt level (Saad 2011). The two parties have agreed collectively on the short term measures of a cut in the government spending but have failed to agree on which areas that the governments should reduce spending. They also have different thoughts on the long term remedial. To correct the economic problems in the economy, the government can pursue a significant reduction in the deficit level. The US government through such a move would be in a position to reduce their increasing debt level and at the same time solve other economic challenges. A reduction in t he level of budget deficit can be made for various purposes; the first reason for a reduced budget deficit would be to help reduce the level of government debt (International Monetary Fund 2010). For instance, the Obama administration projects that through the reduction in the government deficit for a decade would make the government solve the high level of debt (OECD 2011). Another reason for cutting the level of government deficit would be

Devising a Strategy for Accor Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words
Devising a Strategy for Accor - Research Paper Example Johnson et al. confer additional dimensions to strategy in their definition: i) long-term perspective, ii) meeting competition and iii) stakeholder value. According to them, a strategy is " the direction and scope of an organisation over the long term which achieves the advantage for the organisation through its configuration of resources within changing environment and to fulfil stakeholder expectations. (2004) After understanding what 'strategy' means the next logical step is to design the 'strategy' and work it. Of the four elements that make 'strategy', according to Mintzberg's definition, internal competencies and shortcomings are internal and therefore within the organisation's control. The other two, viz. changes in the environment and contingent moves by intelligent opponents are external and therefore need to be carefully monitored to be turned into an advantage or counter-acted. The external elements, according to Porter evolve into five forces that impact business success as i) industry competitors, ii) potential new entrants, iii) substitutes, iv) suppliers and v) buyers. (2004 4). In order to meet the challenges of the five forces and out-perform competitors, according to him, there are three generic (meaning they are applicable across industries) strategies. They are i) cost leadership, ii) differentiation and iii) focus. (2004 35) Ireland et al. describe six components of strategic leadership that help organisations navigate the choppy waters of the twenty-first century businesses: they are i) determining the firm's purpose or vision, ii) exploiting and maintaining core competencies, iii) developing human capital, iv) sustaining an effective organisational culture, v) emphasizing ethical practices and vi) establishing balanced organisational controls. Differiating Between Market Structures Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Differiating Between Market Structures - Essay Example The first part of the paper will identify the market structure of the high technology industry; outline the market share of Samsung Corporation, explain why I decided upon this marketing structure and how different the marketing structure is from other alternatives. Part two of the paper will identify four competitive strategies that may be used by Samsung to maximize its profits effectively within the high tech industryââ¬â¢s competitive environment. More so the paper will evaluate the efficiency of these strategies in the market structure. Market structure of the high technology industry High technology industries are prone to the same market forces just like any other industry, but there exist few forces that are stronger in the high tech industry. Research claims that these forces affected the market structure of high technology industry in the 1890s and are still affecting the same industry to date. The high technology industry falls under an imperfectly competitive market st ructure, which means that products and services are highly differentiated (Varian, 2001). There are vast factors that arise from effective price discrimination that affects the high technology industry. These factors include personalization of products and pricing, versioning, bundling, switching costs, lock-in and economics of scale. Differentiation of products and services - The information technology allows flexible observation and analysis of consumer behavior, which in turn brings in various kinds of marketing strategies that seemed impossible on a large scale. For instance, a seller can offer prices and goods that are differentiated through individualized behavior and characteristics. Ideally, the high technology industry allows the market of one phenomenon where customers can personalize their prices (Varian, 2001). The high technology industry customers can personalize their adverts on the front pages online and can still buy a personally configured computer. According to th e theory of monopoly first degree price discrimination in most industries charge the highest prices they can to each customer, but the technology industryââ¬â¢s case is different because online sellers face competition from each other as well as from online sellers; hence, further stiffening the competition. Versioning - Versioning is a second-degree price discrimination that usually falls under product quality, which means that sellers design product line that appeals to different market segmentation. For instance, the latest trend of DVD version sells at a higher price and has a lot of content, an aspect that studios uses to discriminate prices between collectors and viewers, as well as between buyers and renters. Bundling - Bundling is the process of selling two or more distinct goods together for a single price. In the technology industry, these goods are ââ¬Å"smallâ⬠information goods like the individual items of web content that are sold in extremely large bundles. B undling affects the economy by reducing the dispersion of willingness to pay as well as increase entry barriers, but it enhances firm profits and overall efficiency (Varian, 2001). For instance, instead of a soft w3are company selling a word processor and a spreadsheet separately at different prices, the company could combine the two products and sell them at a higher price. Switching cost - Unlike other industries, switching costs in the high technolo
